Duke senior Emmie Le Marchand and freshman Savannah Story will blog for Duke field hockey throughout the 2013 season, providing fans with an inside look at life with the Blue Devils. Look for the Duke True Blog throughout the fall on GoDuke.com.

It seems like fall is really upon us here in Durham and for regular Dukies that means a few days at home. But to every DUFHer that means three things: midterms, ACC play and pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin!

For the first of the above mentioned items, the extended hours in the K Center and Perkins speak for themselves and, well, the only thing worse than studying for exams is talking about them.

ACC field hockey, however, is much more entertaining with the conference boasting five out of the top eight NCAA teams. Halfway through the six ACC games we have to play, we are feeling good about our 2-1 record and I don’t think we’ll ever stop buzzing about our shootout victory over North Carolina. The biggest rivalry in college sports put on a show under the Friday night lights in Chapel Hill with a packed stand, the UNC band and some entertaining heckling from the UNC faithful. There can be no better advertisement for the quality of ACC field hockey this season than that game. In other conference play, a solid win over Wake Forest and a hard-fought loss against Syracuse in double overtime have us excited to travel to Virginia this weekend and try and make it 3-1 in the ACC.

And the last of the three? This fall - actually every fall - DUFH is obsessed with all things pumpkin. The announcement of pumpkin spice lattés being served around campus had DUFHers’ phones blowing up like smashed pumpkins as the group text buzzed with excitement. Foster’s pumpkin cream cheese pancakes went down trick and treat during a post-practice brunch. And freshman Savannah Story’s pumpkin pies were the star of the show when we all got together for a festive Fall Break lasagne party.

All things orange will continue to be the theme moving forward towards Halloween, beginning with our next match against Virginia this Friday in Charlottesville. Hopefully we can ‘carve apart’ UVA’s defense and roast the seeds!
