Duke Closes Road Swing at Clemson & Notre Dame This Week...
The Duke women’s soccer team (5-6-3, 2-4-2 ACC) will close a four-match road swing this week as the Blue Devils travel to Clemson (7-4-3, 4-3-1) on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m., followed by a match at ninth-ranked Notre Dame (9-4-1, 5-3-1) on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m.
Duke’s match on Thursday at Clemson will be played at Historic Riggs Field and will be aired live on ESPN3.  The Blue Devils will close the road trip on Sunday against the Irish that can be seen on WatchND.TV.
The Blue Devils will return home to host N.C. State (Oct. 24) and Pittsburgh (Oct. 27) next week in their final two home matches of the 2013 regular season.  The Pittsburgh match will be senior day for the Blue Devils.

A Look at Clemson...
Clemson enters the match on Thursday with a 7-4-3 overall and 4-3-1 league mark.  The Lady Tigers have been led by Vanessa Laxgang (5 goals, 2 assists, 12 points) and Catrina Atanda (4 goals) on the season.  In goal, Kailen Sheridan owns a 0.79 goals-against average and has six shutouts on the season.
Clemson is 1-2-1 over its last four matches, but is 5-2-1 at home this season.  The Lady Tigers are coming off playing three straight road contests.

The Series with Clemson...
Duke and Clemson will meet for the 22nd time in school history with the Blue Devils holding a slight, 11-10, advantage in the series.  In matches played in Clemson, S.C., the Lady Tigers own a 5-4 mark versus Duke.  The Blue Devils have collected a five-match win streak in the overall series with Clemson, including two straight wins on the road.  Duke has outscored Clemson, 17-1 over the last five matches.

A Look at Notre Dame...
Notre Dame enters Sunday with a 9-4-1 overall record and 5-3-1 league mark, but the Irish have lost three straight matches, all of which were on the road.  So far this season, Notre Dame owns a 7-1-1 mark at home with the lone loss coming to fourth-ranked UCLA, 1-0.
The Irish have been led by Lauren Bohaboy (6 goals), while a total of 13 different players have scored at least one goal.

The Series with Notre Dame...
Duke and Notre Dame will meet for the 14th time in school history with the Irish leading the series, 8-4-1.  The Blue Devils have totaled a 1-3 mark on the road in the series.  In the last meeting, Duke posted a 3-1 win over then No. 1 ranked Notre Dame in Chapel Hill, N.C., during the UNC Nike Classic on Aug. 28, 2011.  The Blue Devils netted goals by Kelly Cobb, Laura Weinberg and Chelsea Canepa.

Thomas Gets Win at Maryland...
After missing the last 10 matches with a shoulder injury, redshirt junior Meghan Thomas was awarded the start at Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 13.  Thomas played the entire 90 minutes and posted a career-high nine saves as Duke netted a key, 2-1, road win.  The 6-2 goalkeeper’s nine saves was the most by a Blue Devil keeper all season.  It was only her third appearance all season.  She had her first collegiate shutout against Kennesaw State.
For her efforts at Maryland, Thomas was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week and to the CS360 Primetime Performers list on Oct. 15.
Hey, I Know You...
Duke freshman Christina Gibbons played on the CASL Chelsea Ladies ‘94 club team along with Clemson freshmen Claire Wagner and Paige Reckert. Blue Devil freshman Rebecca Quinn also played with fellow Canadian Kailen Sheridan on national teams from Canada.

NCAA RPI...
The fourth NCAA RPI was released this week with Duke moving to No. 32.  The Blue Devils’ challenging schedule shows in the RPI -- losses to Virginia (1), Florida State (8), Wake Forest (9), UCLA (3) and South Carolina (11).

Consecutive Starts...
Senior defender Natasha Anasi owns a team-best 64-game consecutive starts streak.  Over her career, Anasi has helped lead Duke to 36 shutouts on the defensive end.  She is a two-time All-America and MAC Hermann Trophy watch list selection.
The 64 straight starts is eighth in Duke’s record books.

Cobb Continues to Give Duke Offense...
Blue Devil junior forward Kelly Cobb totaled a goal at Maryland on Sunday to give her three tallies over the last four matches.  Her four goals lead Duke, while owning nine points, which ranks second.
Cobb posted her seventh career game-winning goal at Maryland on Oct. 13.  She owns 17 career goals in 50 matches.
Tough Stretch...
The Blue Devils snapped a six-match winless streak at Maryland this past Sunday with a 2-1 victory.  Duke had not won a match since a 3-0 victory over Miami at home on Sept. 12.  The six-match streak tied for the longest winless streak in Duke history (1996, 1991) and was the longest such streak since head coach Robbie Church joined the Blue Devils in 2001.  Duke will play its third consecutive road match on Thursday and has totaled a 2-3-1 mark on the road this year.
Only Duke, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest feature four-match road stretches during the 2013 ACC slate.

Weinberg Moving Up Career Charts...
Senior Laura Weinberg has totaled 10 points this season, which all have come over the last eight matches.  She collected four assists against Miami (2), Florida State (1) and Virginia Tech (1) followed by goals at Boston College, Wake Forest and Syracuse.
Weinberg moved into second place on Duke’s all-time points list with 96 and is only 21 away from first place.  She passed Casey McCluskey (96), after scoring at Boston College.  Weinberg owns 37 career goals, which ranks No. 3 on the Blue Devil charts.  She is only three away from tying McCluskey (40) for second.
Weinberg totaled a career-high 16 goals and 12 assists in 2012 and is only 21 points away from matching the Duke career points mark of 117 held by Kelly Walbert.

On the Road...
So far this year, Duke owns a 2-3-1 record on the road with the wins coming at 12th-ranked Texas A&M in the season opener and in its last match at Maryland.  The Blue Devils have lost at South Carolina, Wake Forest, Boston College and tied Syracuse in the other road matches.
Laura Weinberg has scored all three of the goals on the road, while Kim DeCesare owns two of her three tallies away from home.  Freshman Toni Payne has totaled all three of her assists on the road, while scoring one goal.

Challenging Schedule...
Duke’s non-conference schedule was one of the toughest in the nation featuring four ranked opponents -- No. 2 UCLA, No. 15 South Carolina, No. 16 West Virginia and then No. 12 Texas A&M.

Duke Freshmen Make Immediate Impact...
Duke freshmen have made an immediate impact and over the last 10 matches at least three rookies have started -- Christina Gibbons, Lizzy Raben, Malinda Allen, Toni Payne and Rebecca Quinn.
The true freshmen have accumulated 5,159 minutes played on the season, which is 26 percent of the Blue Devils’ minutes played in 2013.
Quinn was injured in the New Mexico match and made her return to the pitch at Boston College.  She collected her first collegiate assist in her return.  Quinn missed the Maryland match with the same injury.
A total of seven freshmen have seen action so far this season – Lizzy Raben, Christina Gibbons, Rebecca Quinn, Toni Payne, Krysia Sikora, Malinda Allen and Catherine Blair.
