DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Reed Anthes did all he could to lift the Blue team to victory, but his efforts were not enough as Black evened the Duke baseball team’s Fall World Series 1-1 with a 6-4 victory Saturday at Jack Coombs Field.
Anthes went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored as the Marietta, Ga., native singled in the first inning and tripled in the ninth.
Blue freshman RHP Karl Blum put together a nice outing, holding Black hitless over three frames. Blum did not allow an earned run or a walk and struck out three on the afternoon.
The Blue team grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Senior David Perkins belted a triple to kick start the offense and ultimately scored on Anthes’ RBI single.
Black added to its lead with three runs in the eighth as a passed ball plated senior Jordan Betts to start the scoring.
Junior RHP Sarkis Ohanian came on for the Black team and recorded the final five outs to pick up the save.
Duke’s Fall World Series continues Sunday afternoon with the first pitch of game three set for 4 p.m. from Jack Coombs Field. The Blue Devil Network will stream audio of the contest with Chris Edwards on the call.
