DURHAM, N.C. – In its final exhibition game of the preseason, the Duke men’s basketball team will host reigning Division II national champion Drury this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils, who handled Bowie State 103-67 in their first exhibition this past Saturday, have hosted the reigning Division II national champion in exhibition action in six of the past seven seasons. Fans can watch the game live on Blue Devil Network Plus.
“One unique thing we always do is our preparation,” sophomore shooting guard Rasheed Sulaimon said. “The same way we prepare for a Davidson or a Kansas – our first two games of the season – we’re going to prepare the same way for Drury. We never overlook any team, and of course these guys can play. I think it’s going to be a great game, and I am very excited for it.”
Duke featured a balanced offense against Bowie State with four players scoring in double figures, including redshirt sophomore Rodney Hood who led the team with 19 points. Freshman Jabari Parker scored 16 points, while sophomore Amile Jefferson and freshman Matt Jones each scored 15. The Blue Devils shot 31-of-68 (.456) from the field while forcing Bowie State into 23 turnovers.
“I think we’re coming along,” said Sulaimon, who started and scored nine points against Bowie State. “There’s definitely still some room for improvement. We’re still trying to get that chemistry, but we’re headed in the right direction. With a few more practices and the Drury game tomorrow, we’ll get there before the start of the season.”
The Blue Devils earned a No. 4 national ranking in both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and will open the 2013-14 season at home against Davidson on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
