DURHAM, N.C. – Four members of the Duke field hockey team have been selected to the 2013 All-ACC teams as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford Wednesday, Nov. 6. The accolades were voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.

Redshirt sophomore Lauren Blazing, senior Paula Heimbach, sophomore Aileen Johnson and senior Emmie Le Marchand were all named to the league’s second team. Top-ranked Maryland led the way with six selections to the All-ACC squads while Duke and Syracuse had four each.

A native of Durham, N.C., Blazing has enjoyed a breakout season in goal for the Blue Devils en route to earning the first all-conference nod of her career. She ranks seventh nationally in save percentage with a .786 clip and is second in the ACC in that category as well as in saves (99) and saves per game (5.50). Blazing collected ACC Player of the Week honors earlier this fall after turning in a standout performance in Duke’s 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously unbeaten and top-ranked North Carolina Sept. 27 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Her 22 saves in that contest marked a career-high and are the most by an ACC goalkeeper in a single game this season.

Heimbach, who hails from Palm, Pa., was tabbed to the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. The senior defender has guided the Blue Devil defense to four shutouts and a 1.44 goals against average this fall. She has also helped the defensive unit limit 11 of its 18 opponents to one goal or fewer. One of the squad’s most dependable backs over the past four seasons, Heimbach has totaled one goal and three assists to go with two defensive saves for her career and was recently selected to compete in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game.

A two-year starter in the midfield, Johnson joined Blazing in picking up the first All-ACC accolades of her career. The Oceanport, N.J., product is fifth on the team in goals (4) and points (10) and owns an impressive .900 shots on goal percentage. Three of her four goals this season have come in ACC play, including the gamewinner just 53 seconds into overtime at Boston College. She matched a career-high with three points against Virginia during the regular season, notching one goal and one assist.

Le Marchand, a native of Worcester, England, garnered the third All-ACC recognition of her career. She paces the Duke offense this season with 30 points on 11 goals and eight assists and is tied for seventh in the ACC in goals per game (0.67). Le Marchand tallied a point in five of the Blue Devils’ six regular season ACC matchups including registering a game-tying goal in the 69th minute of the Blue Devils’ 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina Sept. 27. The dynamic forward has started 77 games over her career and currently ranks eighth in program history in points (121) and goals (49). She is slated to join Heimbach at the 2013 NFHCA Division I Senior Game.

Duke (13-5, 3-3 ACC) heads to the ACC Championship as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 seed Virginia (15-4, 3-3 ACC) in the quarterfinals Thursday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. in Newton, Mass. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
