Duke Tops Michigan in Big Ten/ACC Challenge
Thanks to a 24-point second half by junior point guard Quinn Cook, No. 10 Duke defeated No. 22 Michigan 79-69 at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The win was Duke’s third in the past four seasons in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, giving the Blue Devils a 12-2 record all-time in the conference showdown.

Cook’s 24-point half points came on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 performance from the free throw line. In the first half, Cook got his teammates involved and totaled six assists and just one turnover before taking over the scoring in the second half. For the game, he totaled 24 points, nine assists, two turnovers, four rebounds and two steals as Duke improved to 6-0 at home this season and improved its non-conference home win streak to 107 games.

Quiet Week On the Horizon
With nine games under their belt, the Blue Devils get an open week to focus on final exams. There will be 13 days between games, as Duke won’t take the court again until a Dec. 16 home matchup against Gardner-Webb. That will be Duke’s longest stretch between games this season but with good reason as Duke faces fellow basketball powerhouse UCLA in New York on Dec. 19 in the CARQUEST Auto Parts Classic.

Alex Murphy to Transfer
The Blue Devil basketball program announced this past week that redshirt sophomore forward Alex Murphy will transfer to another Division I school at the end of the semester. Murphy has appeared in five games this season, averaging 1.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game while hitting 1-of-6 shots from the field and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. As a redshirt freshman during the 2012-13 season, Murphy played in 31 games and averaged 2.1 points and 1.0 rebounds per game while shooting 27-of-55 (.491) from the field, 5-of-24 (.208) from three-point range and 5-of-12 (.417) from the free throw line. He scored a career-high 11 points in a loss at No. 25 Miami.

Said Murphy, “I have enjoyed my time at Duke and am thankful for the support of my coaches, teammates and the fans. However, I feel that it is in my best interest to leave the program at this point. I have grown and developed on and off the court during my time in Durham and am excited about my future.”

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski commented positively on Murphy’s time at Duke, saying, “Alex has been absolutely great for our program and our university. He is a top-notch young man and an excellent player. He comes from an amazing family and it was an honor for us to have him here at Duke. We wish him the very best and we always want to be a part of his future. We are friends and friends of the family and totally supportive of his decision.”

Lakers Recall Ryan Kelly
Not only did the Los Angeles Lakers get a boost when Kobe Bryant returned to the floor this past week, rookie forward Ryan Kelly also rejoined the team Sunday. Kelly has been scoring at will in the NBA Development League, averaging 25.2 points in five games. Kelly has at least 20 points in all five games, including two 30-point performances, to go with 7.6 rebounds per game. This will be Kelly's second stint with the Lakers after earning a spot on the roster at the start of the season.
