DURHAM, N.C. – With the start of the overseas basketball season getting underway, a number of former Blue Devils are already beginning to establish themselves as major contributors on their respective teams. Center Mistie Mims currently leads her team in scoring and rebounding in France, while Monique Currie is averaging over 20 points a game for her team in South Korea.
Alana Beard Shinhan Bank S-Birds – South Korea 2013-14 South Korean League Stats: 12 games, 7.8 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 0.7 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Beard, currently playing for the Shinhan Bank S-Birds in the South Korean basketball league, nearly recorded a double-double in her debut with the team, scoring 16 points and collecting seven rebounds. The S-Birds defeated the opposing team, Winnus, 89-78. Beard’s highest scoring output of the season came on Nov. 18 against Bichumi, as the former Blue Devil guard scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting in 18 minutes of action. Through 12 games, the S-Birds current record is 7-5.
Monique Currie KB Stars – South Korea 2013-14 South Korean League Stats: 11 games, 20.3 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.2 APG, 2.2 SPG, 0.5 BPG
Currie continues a successful campaign with the South Korean KB Stars, as the guard is averaging over 20 points a game. In her debut with the KB Stars, Currie scored 30 points, shooting over 50-percent from the field and converting on all eight free-throw attempts. On Dec. 7, Currie led KB Stars past Bichumi, 58-57, recording a double-double in the process by scoring 20 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. Currie followed the performance with a game-high 36 points against the S-Birds in a 73-68 KB Stars’ victory.
Foley scored double-digit points in 11 of her 13 appearances for the Adelaide Lightning this season, with a season-high 17 points coming against Sydney UF Dec. 7. Foley recorded a double-double in the third game of the season, netting 11 points and bringing down 10 rebounds in a winning effort against Canberra C. Foley opened her season with the Adelaide Lightning in efficient fashion, scoring 15 points and shooting 75-percent from the field.
Kathleen Scheer Sydney UF – Australia 2013-14 Stats: 12 games, 9.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.1 APG, 0.2 SPG, 0.6 BPG
After scoring just nine points in her first two games with Sydney UF, Scheer rebounded in a big way, netting 20 points in 30 minutes of action against Dandenong R. in her third game of the season. Scheer shot 6-of-9 from the field in the contest, including a 2-of-4 performance from beyond the arc. Scheer also notched two blocked shots and seven rebounds. The guard earned a double-double Nov. 2 against Townsville F., with 11 rebounds and 13 points.
Christmas continues to excel as a member of the Maccabi Ramat Hen team. Christmas recorded a double-double in five of her eight games this season, including a Maccabi R. Hen victory against Elitzur Netanya, when the guard scored 22 points and collected 21 rebounds. The contest was the second 20-plus rebound game of the season for Christmas, her first coming Nov. 11 against H.R. Le-Zion. Christmas is currently Maccabi R. Hen’s leading scorer, with her season-high output of 29 points coming in her most recent appearance Dec. 11 against Maccabi Ashdod. She earned EuroBasket.com Player of Week on Dec. 9 for her efforts.
Thomas scored 12 points in her debut for Perfumerias, her highest scoring game of the season. Since the season opener, Thomas has recorded five double-digit rebound games. Perfumerias currently sits in first place with an 8-1 record.
Black has recorded double-digit rebounds in each of her last five games for Umbertide, while also notching double-doubles in four of the five contests. In her most recent appearance, Black scored 22 points from the floor and added 10 rebounds in a losing effort against Ragusa. Black is currently shooting over 50-percent from the field and ranks second on the team in scoring.
Center Mistie Mims recorded double-digit points in all 11 contests this season for Lyons, including a double-double on Oct. 26 against Lyon. Mims narrowly missed two additional double-doubles this season, scoring 16 points and collecting nine rebounds against Landes Oct. 23 and again in her most recent appearance against Nantes, after netting 17 points and securing nine rebounds. Mims currently leads Lyon in both scoring and rebounding.
