DURHAM, N.C. – Johnathan Lloyd, a 6-0, 195-pound quarterback from Southern Alamance High School in Graham, N.C., has signed a financial aid agreement to attend Duke University and will join the football team for bowl preparation practices beginning Monday.
“We’re certainly excited to have Johnathan join our program,” said Duke head coach David Cutcliffe.  “Obviously, he becomes the first member of the class that will officially sign in February, and this is a unique opportunity for Johnathan to experience our practice schedule prior to enrolling in classes next month.  Johnathan has had an outstanding career as a leader and player during his time at Southern Alamance.”
As a senior, Lloyd threw for 3,068 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions while rushing for 755 yards and 11 additional scores while helping Southern Alamance to the state playoffs.  He compiled 2,663 yards of total offense along with 33 total touchdowns as a junior.  Lloyd is charted as the No. 26 athlete in the nation by
Duke is scheduled to practice in Durham through December 22 in advance of its trip to Atlanta, Ga., to play in the 46th annual Chick-fil-A Bowl.  The Blue Devils are scheduled to arrive in Atlanta on December 25.
Per NCAA regulations, Lloyd will not be permitted to travel with the team to Atlanta, participate in bowl preparation practice sessions at the bowl site or play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl when the Blue Devils meet Texas A&M on December 31 at the Georgia Dome.
Lloyd will begin academic coursework at Duke in January, 2014.
