DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Kelly Hagerty to learn more about the Glenview, Ill., native.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite competition-related memory?
Kelly Hagerty: Watching my roommate [Lauren Weaver] get third in the 50 free at ACCs last year. That was pretty cool because her time was insanely fast. And also breaking my four-year plateau last year in the 50 freestyle.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite memory away from the pool?
KH: The first time I ever met all my teammates freshman year – just the overwhelming excitement of all of it.
GoDuke.com: What are three things you want to do in the next 10 years?
KH: Get a job, probably get married and travel around Europe.
GoDuke.com: Describe yourself in three words.
KH: Charismatic, goofy and happy.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite restaurants in Durham.
KH: Chamas, Blue Corn Cafe and Alivia’s.
GoDuke.com: Who are some swimmers you admired growing up?
KH: Amanda Beard – I was obsessed with her when I was 10 and I’m not really sure why because I didn’t swim breaststroke. And Natalie Coughlin because she’s every swimmer girl’s idol.
GoDuke.com: What are your three favorite things about the sport of swimming?
KH: The feeling after a hard practice – you feel so dead but you feel so accomplished. The excitement after a really good race – you look up at the board and I just love the smile and the happiness that comes over you. And my teammates.
