DURHAM, N.C. – Junior midfielder Taylor Trimble and former Blue Devil Sarah Bullard have been named to the U.S. women’s national lacrosse team roster for the ninth annual Champion Challenge, as announced Thursday by US Lacrosse. The event will take place Jan. 24-26 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Team USA will face reigning NCAA champion North Carolina and national runner-up Maryland in a series of contests over the three-day event.
Bullard is one of 15 players on the Champion Challenge roster that helped Team USA defend its gold medal at the FIL World Cup over the summer in Oshawa, Ontario. A 2011 graduate of Duke, she tallied eight goals during the U.S. squad’s run to the title and was also a member of the gold medal squad in 2009.
A midfielder from Rosemont, Pa., Trimble was selected to the U.S. national team roster for the Stars and Stripes event in October and previously played with the U.S. Under-19 squad, leading the team to the gold medal at the 2011 Under-19 World Championships in Hannover, Germany. One of the captains of that team, Trimble received All-World distinction following a 14-11 win in the finals over Australia.
Trimble was an All-ACC and second team IWLCA All-South Region team member in 2013 while ranking second on the team in goals (37) and draw controls (45). She started all 20 games on the spring, concluding the season with at least one point in each of the Blue Devils’ final 15 games. Heading into her third season, Trimble ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in career points (t-25th, 72), career goals (t-19th, 65) and career draw controls (20th, 65).
