DURHAM, N.C. – The Los Angeles Athletic Club has announced its John R. Wooden Award Women’s Midseason Top 20 with Duke senior Chelsea Gray and junior Elizabeth Williams two of 21 selections chosen by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board.

Players not chosen to the midseason team are still eligible for the National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they are making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.  The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation’s top five players, will be announced the week of the Final Four.

Gray, who is out of Manteca, Calif., was averaging 10.8 points, 7.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 steals through 17 games prior to suffering a fractured kneecap against Boston College on Jan. 12.  Her 7.2 assists ranked sixth nationally and she needed only 35 more dishes to become Duke’s all-time assist leader.  Gray was a two-time All-America selection as a sophomore and junior.

Williams is playing the best basketball of the season as she is averaging 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, 2.1 assists and 2.1 steals over the last seven games.  During that stretch, Williams recorded double-doubles in three straight games.  Williams, a product of Virginia Beach, Va., is hitting a career-best 56.3 percent from the field on the season and currently ranks 15th nationally with a 2.8 per game average.

Third-ranked Duke (18-1) will next travel Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday, Jan.23 for a 7:00 p.m., contest against Florida State.
