DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke University men’s soccer team took advantage of the day off of classes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to lend a helping hand in preparing meals at Durham Tech. The Blue Devils spent a couple hours at Durham Tech in helping put together meals that will be shipped to underdeveloped countries.

The MLK Million Meals program, directed by the non-profit organization Stop Hunger Now, is an annual service project providing meals for school lunch programs around the world. The Blue Devils partnered with other members of the Duke, North Carolina Central and Durham communities to help package thousands of meals for young children.

“We helped prepare thousands of meals throughout the two hour session, which included properly filling bags to the desired amount with dry ingredients, sealing those bags, and ultimately packaging those bags in order for these meals to be shipped to underdeveloped countries,” said junior captain Sean Davis. “It was a great event that was not only meaningful, but fun for everyone. It’s important to us to give back to a community that gives us so much.”

Stop Hunger Now, Inc., is an international relief aid association that coordinates in the distribution of food and emergency needs to families in need around the globe.
