Well, it's hard to believe but, yes, today we kick of the 2014 season with our first game against Elon!
We have been training hard for this day since we all made it back to Durham in spite of the crazy weather some of our Chicago girls had to endure (Molly Quirke and Izzy M).
This year is already a little different, considering we have completely new practice facilities. Our team cannot thank enough the school, donors and staff that made these new fields possible, because, for lack of better words, they are truly amazing. Three new fields -- two turf, one grass -- a whole new storage room, new cages, new goals, cameras on every light post to film practices, a new sound system, new stadium seats, but most importantly, a new team to put those fields to the test every day.
When I say a new team, I truly mean it. This team is different. We are 33 girls strong.Every single person on the team is determined to do something that no other Duke women’s lacrosse team has done thus far: we are all ready to endure the pain, sacrifice, hard work and true commitment that it takes to win a national championship.
We can accomplish this goal because we know we have the full support of families, friends, fellow athletes, professors and, of course, each other. And -- calling all Duke students and alumni -- having support at our home and away games will help motivate us on our road to that championship.
We officially start our journey with our first two games this weekend. Like all hard roads, and we will have our ups and our downs throughout the season, at the end of the day our eyes will never take sight off our goal -- our single minded, tough-as-nails, highly focused team goal -- a national title.
The 2014 Duke women’s lacrosse team is going to make history this year.
