DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Lauren Weaver to learn more about the Cincinnati, Ohio., native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Lauren Weaver: The prestige that being a Duke student-athlete brings, all the friends that I’ve made and my teammates and being able to compete at the collegiate level for such a great university.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite competition-related memory?
LW: Last year, my junior year, at ACCs prelims in the 50 freestyle I swam a 22.2 and looking up at the board when I realized that was my time, I kind of freaked out.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite memory away from the pool?
LW: Last year on training trip when we went snorkeling and had a lunch and a really fun day.
GoDuke.com: Describe head coach Dan Colella in three words.
LW: Focus on the Process. That is what he always says.
GoDuke.com: Name three foods you can’t live without.
LW: Skyline Chili – it’s a Cincinnati thing. Greater’s Ice Cream, that’s another Cincinnati thing. And hot sauce in general.
GoDuke.com: Were there any swimmers you modeled yourself after growing up?
LW: There were some local swimmers who were pretty good. There was a kid named Scott Ransenberg who swam at Stanford. He was probably eight years older than me. Lenny Krayzelburg. And Jenny Thompson – she was my idol. I’ve loved her since I was little.
GoDuke.com: What are three places you would travel to if you could?
LW: French Polynesia, Greece and Ireland.
GoDuke.com: What are three things that motivate you to perform?
LW: Always wanting to out-do myself, always wanting to do better and wanting to do the best for the team whether it is in a relay or individually. Also wanting to represent my school well.
GoDuke.com: What are three things you would do on a day off with no school and no practice:
LW: Sleep, eat and watch Netflix.
