DURHAM, N.C. – With the 2014 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships set to begin Wednesday evening in Greensboro, N.C., GoDuke.com caught up with four-time All-ACC performer Christine Wixted to learn more about the senior’s preparations for the championship meet.

GoDuke.com: How does it feel to be heading into your final ACC Championship meet as a senior?
Christine Wixted: It’s kind of surreal. A lot of my friends just finished up their season at Cavalier Invite so we’re kind of next to be done here. It’s weird – it hasn’t really sunk in yet that this will be the last time I’ll be swimming at the ACC Championships. But I think I’m more excited than anything. We have a great team going. And I’m just going to focus on having fun because it’s the last one.

GoDuke.com: How have your performances so far this season helped you gain confidence entering this weekend’s meet?
CW: Swimming so well in November gave me a self-confidence boost going into ACCs now. I’m just going to let it fall into place. You’ve done all the work, you’ve done all the sets and training you can do, so you’ve just got to believe in that and believe in the taper you’ve done and know that the coaches have planned for us to swim the best we can.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any specific individual goals for this meet?
CW: Just race – I think that’s the most important part for me right now. Going over your race strategy and really hitting certain things that will really help get those tenths of seconds get shaved off. So I think just doing the race strategy I plan to do and having fun – stuff will happen and the times will be there.

GoDuke.com: How will your NCAA Championships experience last year help guide you through the postseason in 2014?
CW: NCAAs, with the magnitude of swimmers that were there, it’s just crazy – the energy there and everyone was swimming so fast. I think just having that experience under my belt for this year will definitely help me moving forward. And having more of a team presence there this year is me and Lauren [Weaver]’s main goal, to just have more girls there because that’s what makes it fun is having a team there.
