Peters was one of 15 student-athletes selected and becomes just the fifth different Blue Devil to earn Academic All-America honors – Jasmine Thomas (2010, 2011), Abby Waner (2007), Katie Meier (1988) and Stacy Hurd (1984, 1983).
Obtaining a degree in political science along with a minor in English, Peters has tallied a 3.787 grade-point average over her Duke career. Peters, a native of Red Bank, N.J., is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District III honoree, three-time ACC All-Academic Team and three-time ACC Honor Roll selection. She was named to the Dean’s List at Duke over her first five semesters.
The 6-3 forward has started all 21 contests she has played in for the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (23-3, 10-2 ACC), while averaging 10.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals. Her 7.6 rebounds per game ranks 10th in the ACC and leads the Duke squad. Peters became just the ninth player in Blue Devil history to notch over 1,000 points and 750 rebounds over her career. She also ranks 10th overall on the Duke rebounding list with 758 boards.
Peters was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team along with Hallie Christofferson (Iowa State), Jerica Coley (Florida International), Ashley Luke (Western Illinois) and Ifunanya Mora (Incarnate Word).
On the first team was Kody Burke (NC State), Amanda Hyde (Indiana Purdue-FW), Eilise O’Connor (Missouri-Kansas City), Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford) and Rachel Tecca (Akron). Including on the second team was Heather Butler (Tennessee Martin), Alyssa Charlston (Idaho), Nicole Elmblad (Michigan), Ebony Rowe (Middle Tennessee St.) and Alli Williams (Saint Francis (Pa.)).
Duke will host 14th-ranked N.C. State on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The contest will be aired live on ESPN3.
