Dionne Nets 100; Attackman Joins Elite Company
Senior attackman tallied his ninth goal of the season and 100th of his career 8:53 into Duke’s 14-6 win over Stony Brook to become the 16th Blue Devils to record 100 career goals in Duke history. Dionne joins linemate Jordan Wolf (127) and Duke assistant coach Matt Danowski (170) on the list. The native of Merrimack, N.H., had 36 and 45 goals in 2002 and 2013, respectively, after playing primarily on man-up offense as a rookie. Dionne, heading into the weekend needing four goals to reach the 100-goal plateau, registered his 18th career hat trick against Penn to push him to 99 heading into the Stony Brook matchup.

Duke Finishes February 4-0
For the first time since 2008 Duke finished the month of February unbeaten. Duke’s four wins in the second month of the year are the most in program history and pushed the Blue Devils’ record to 41-9 in the month. This marks just the third time in program history Duke has played four-plus games in February. The Blue Devils went 3-1 in 2012 and 2-3 in 2013.

Casey Carroll and Luke Duprey Have Big Days
Senior longstick midfielder Luke Duprey and redshirt senior close defenseman Casey Carroll both posted five caused turnovers and five ground balls in a pair of wins for the Blue Devils this weekend. Duprey registered his career-high matching five caused turnovers Friday night in the 9-6 win over Penn. His five ground balls against the Quakers were a season-high and marked the eighth time in his career he has picked up five-plus grounders. Carroll was equally as impressive Sunday in the win over Stony Brook. The seasoned veteran routinely grabbed “nuggets” as he picked off Stony Brook passes and held the Seawolves scoreless for 31:03. Duprey remains on pace to become the first Blue Devil to record 100 career caused turnovers with 74 after 65 career games. Meanwhile, Carroll is 18 shy of reaching the 200 career ground balls mark.

Duke Grinds Out Win Over Penn
After posting 16 and 14 goals in their first two wins of the year, the Blue Devils grinded out a 9-6 battle over No. 18/16 Penn Friday night. In a physical matchup with the Quakers that featured 10 penalties overall, Duke used a 3-1 third quarter to come away with the three-goal win. Duke, facing a different look in Penn’s defense, turned the ball over 16 times and was just 13-of-19 on clears in the first half. Duke adjusted at halftime and came out in the second half and registered just nine turnovers and failed to clear just twice.

Hipps Scores Big Goal for Blue Devils
Senior close defenseman Chris Hipps netted a big goal that sparked a 3-0 run as the Blue Devils opened an 8-4 lead early in the fourth quarter. Hipps took the ball the length of the field and netted his second career goal. Duprey and Hipps both have scored as poles this season.

Opponent Scoring Droughts
Duke has managed to hold all four of its opponents to considerable scoring droughts this season. The Blue Devils held Stony Brook without a goal for the first 31:03 and kept Penn off the scoreboard for 16:03 to stretch a one-goal game to four. Duke held Jacksonville without a goal for 21:25 in the season opener and Denver without a score for 19:41.

Brothers Rowe Square Off
Duke junior faceoff specialist Jack Rowe got the rare opportunity to face off against his younger brother Kyle Rowe of Stony Brook Sunday. Rowe took the final eight faceoffs of the afternoon, winning six of them. He picked up four ground balls in that stretch to set career highs in all three categories. His brother came into the game with a .795 win percentage at the X.

Ikedas to Meet in College Park
The Ikeda brothers will reunite for an afternoon as Duke’s Jamie Ikeda and Maryland Casey Ikeda meet on the lacrosse field. Both are close defensemen for their respective teams. In four starting assignments Jamie has five caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Casey has four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Blue Devils Prepare for Gauntlet of March
Starting with matchup against a top-five Maryland squad March 1, the Blue Devils’ schedule ramps up in the month of March. Duke will play seven games in 28 days, including three in the first 11 of the month. Four of Duke’s seven opponents are currently ranked in the top eight of the Inside Lacrosse/Warrior Media Poll this week. Duke finished last season 6-1 in March with the lone loss coming against Maryland. Since 2007, the Blue Devils are 42-9 in the third month.

“The 3-0 start in February feels great,” said Dionne. “I think this [Penn game] was a personal vendetta. We had a little scrap with those kids going…their senior class against our senior class. It was good to get a win in our backyard and I give a lot of credit to our seniors on that one.”
