Durham, N.C. -- Redshirt senior Curtis Beach was named the Ronald McDonald House Duke Charities Student-Athlete of the Week after being crowned the ACC heptathlon champion at the 2014 ACC Indoor Championships in Clemson, S.C., Friday, Feb. 28.
The Albuquerque, N.M., native earned the second ACC heptathlon title of his collegiate career after amassing a meet and facility record point total of 5,987 (6,011 converted). Beach’s performance bested the previous ACC Conference Championships record of 5,881. Beach previously won the heptathlon at the 2012 ACC Indoor Championships.
Beach’s point total from the conference meet ranks No. 1 in the nation heading into the NCAA Championships scheduled for Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15. Beach returns home to Albuquerque, N.M., for the two-day competition and looks to close out his indoor track and field career in front of a home crowd.
