Duke sophomore Emma Lazaroff will blog throughout the 2014 season, providing fans with an inside look at life on the Blue Devil women's lacrosse team. Look for Emma's blog all year on

We survived midterm week and made it to spring break! While most students hopped on planes to tropical islands to work on their tans, we hopped on Koskinen to get better every day. And don’t get us wrong  - we definitely got our fair share of tan lines. I mean, who wouldn’t prefer a pinny and high sock tan line anyway?

Break was a great time for us as a team to step away from the stress of school, early morning classes and late nights in the library to focus all our energy on lacrosse. Being almost halfway through the season, (just to make sure that sunk in … I repeat we are already HALFWAY through the season. Can you believe it!?) this break from school was a great way for our team to re-focus and re-commit ourselves to our one goal of a national title.

For the first half of this season, we have definitely had our ups and downs. But we have learned so much about ourselves, our team and most importantly, our potential. Going into the second half of our season, we are taking steps in the right direction to become the championship team we know we can be. We are getting better every day, learning from our mistakes and pushing each other on the field in every drill.

Besides playing lacrosse, we also had the privilege of helping out around the community. Half of our team went to the Ronald McDonald House to help clean and lend a hand to families in need, while the other half of the team went to the Duke Children’s Hospital to visit and talk with kids and families. It was such an eye-opening experience for everyone. The opportunity to help others always puts everything back into perspective, and these trips helped us all focus on what really matters and to remember what a privilege it is to be a member of the Duke community.

So, as we head into the second half of our season and drive towards winning the ACC  Tournament, we still have our eyes on the prize – a national title for Duke women’s lacrosse.  And we promise that after we win the national title we will take an even better team picture.
