COLUMBUS, Ohio – Duke junior epeeist Sarah Collins strung together an impressive turnaround on day two of the NCAA Fencing Championships and climbed from last place to 12th to earn All-America honors on the final day of the women’s competition at Ohio State University.

Collins, a team captain making her third consecutive appearance at the national championships, entered the day in 24th place in the epee field but went 6-2 Friday to climb 12 spots and finish with an 11-12 record. The performance was enough to net All-America honors for the first time in her career.

The All-America award caps a 2013-14 season for Collins that included a 47-12 record in the regular season despite missing Duke’s first two meets while recovering from an injury.

With Collins’ performance, Duke netted 11 points in the team standings and currently sits in 19th place. The Blue Devils will have the opportunity to drastically increase that total beginning Saturday when Duke’s four men’s fencers – Joseph Lam (foil), Christopher Monti (saber), Dylan Nollner (epee) and Alessio Santoro (epee) – take the strip for their first day of competition.
