DURHAM, N.C. – A handful of competitors are set to compete at the 120th Running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., beginning Thursday, April 24. Duke has seen success at the competition in the past, with three school records falling at last season’s event.

Freshman Amarie Bremel opens competition for the Blue Devils with the women’s discus, scheduled for a 9 a.m. start Thursday morning. Freshman Christine Streisel joins Harrell in the throws Thursday, competing in the javelin at 6:45 p.m.

In addition to the throws, the pole vault and long jump are also scheduled for Thursday, with sophomore and school record holder Megan Clark taking to the pole vault runway at 3 p.m. and fellow school record holder and redshirt sophomore Teddi Maslowski competing in the long jump at 4 p.m.

Events on the track begin at 10 a.m., as Maslowski competes in the 400-meter hurdles for the first time this season.

Duke returns to the track at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday with the women’s distance medley relay. Sophomore Anima Banks will lead off the relay before handing the baton to Maslowski, who will complete the 400 leg. Junior Abby Farley, coming off a personal-best 800 run at the conference championship, will cover 800m as the third leg of the DMR before handing off to recent ACC Champion and freshman Haley Meier, who will close the relay with the mile leg.

Three Duke competitors are also scheduled to compete in distance races Thursday evening, beginning with senior Christian Britto in the men’s steeplechase at 7:50 p.m. Senior Ashley Berry is scheduled to compete in the women’s steeplechase at 8 p.m. before sophomore Madison Granger concludes the first day of competition with the women’s 3,000.

On Friday, senior Tanner Anderson looks to defend his title from last season’s Penn Relays, when the Valdese, N.C., native cleared 7-2.50 (2.19) to win the event. Sophomore Carl Heinz and redshirt junior Michael Krone are also scheduled to participate in the event.

Redshirt sophomore Karli Johonnot is slated to compete in the women’s high jump at 1:45 p.m., while redshirt senior Curtis Beach looks to post a solid mark in the men’s long jump at 2 p.m.

Track competition for the Blue Devils begins at 12:30 p.m. on Friday with the men’s 4x100, comprised of freshman Ryan Smith, redshirt junior Issac Blakeney, redshirt freshman DeVon Edwards and senior Marcus Wright.  Wright returns to the track one hour later to join freshman Chaz Hawkins, sophomore Robert Rohner and Beach in the 4x200.

The Blue Devils close Friday’s competition with the men’s and women’s sprint medley relay. The quartet of junior Lauren Hansson, Maslowski, freshman Madeline Kopp and Farley are scheduled to take the track at 6:05 p.m., followed by the foursome of Wright, Hawkins, Rohner and Beach, who compete at 6:30 p.m.

The final day of competition begins Saturday with redshirt sophomore Thomas Lang participating in the men’s javelin at 11:15 a.m. Lang is fresh off winning the same event at the conference championship one week earlier.

Redshirt senior Austin Gamble is set to compete in the men’s discus at 12:30 p.m. before sophomore Michael Foley concludes Duke’s participation in the throwing events by competing in the hammer throw at 3:15 p.m.

Junior Ian Rock, coming off an eighth-place finish in the same event one week earlier at the conference championship, returns to the pole vault Saturday at 2 p.m.

Numerous finals are scheduled to run Saturday afternoon. Duke begins competition on the track with the men’s 4xmile, slated for 1:25 p.m. The foursome of juniors Henry Farley, Brian Schoepfer and Nate McClafferty and graduate student Mike Moverman are set to compete in the event.
