GLASGOW, Scotland – Former Blue Devil defender Stefanie Fee and the United States women’s national field hockey team advanced to the semifinal round at the 2014 Women’s Hockey Champions Challenge with a 1-0 victory over India Thursday, May 1.

The back-and-forth battle remained scoreless until the 59th minute when the U.S. squad broke through for a goal.

“It was a gritty performance to get the win tonight and I’m pleased with how we stuck to the task to get the result,” said U.S. head coach Craig Parnham. “Credit to India who played a very good game tonight. We’re now looking forward to the next game against Spain, a team we know very well. It will be another tough battle but very much looking forward to it.”

The Americans have gone 3-1 at the tournament, held at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre, defeating Spain, Ireland and India and suffering just one loss to South Africa.

Up next, Fee and the U.S. squad meet Spain again in the tournament semifinals Saturday, May 3 at 11:15 a.m. ET (4:15 p.m. local time).
