DURHAM, N.C. – As the 2014 WNBA season tips Friday, May 16, a total of seven former Duke standouts will suit up for seven different teams – Mistie Bass (Phoenix), Alana Beard (Los Angeles), Karima Christmas (Indiana), Monique Currie (Washington), Lindsey Harding (Los Angeles), Tricia Liston (Minnesota) and Jasmine Thomas (Atlanta).

The season will officially get underway Friday five games highlight opening night in the WNBA.  Minnesota will travel to Washington, New York at Connecticut, San Antonio at Atlanta, Indiana at Chicago and Los Angles at Seattle will conclude the evening.

Two Blue Devils – Beard and Harding – will compete together for the second straight year with the Los Angeles Sparks.  A four-time WNBA all-star, Beard started all 32 games a year ago for the Sparks, while averaging 6.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals.  She enters her ninth full season in the WNBA as she missed the 2010 and 2011 seasons with injuries.

Harding, a 2010 WNBA All-Star selection, enters her eighth season in the WNBA and is coming off a 2013 campaign where she started all 33 games and averaged 10.9 points, 5.2 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals.

A 2010 WNBA All-Star, Currie begins her ninth season in the WNBA and the seventh with the Washington Mystics.  She averaged 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals, while starting 34 contests last summer.

Jasmine Thomas is set to kick off her fourth season in the WNBA and the second straight with the Atlanta Dream.  Thomas started 29 of 34 games a year ago as she averaged 8.5 points, 3.1 assists and 3.0 rebounds, along with leading the Dream to the WNBA finals.

Christmas begins her second full season with the Fever, after starting 28 of 34 contests a year ago in Indiana.  She averaged 8.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.1 assists on the season.

Bass will enter her eighth season in the WNBA and will play with her fifth different team as she will be with the Phoenix Mercury in 2013.  She started her career playing with Houston, before heading to Chicago for two years and with Connecticut the last two seasons.  Bass averaged 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists last year with the Sun.
