THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Former Blue Devil defender Stefanie Fee and the United States’ women’s national field hockey team continued what has been a strong week of pool play at the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup, earning a 5-0 victory over China Friday.
Team USA set the tone from the beginning, capitalizing in the fourth minute of action on a goal by Katie O’Donnell. The squad added two more scores before halftime to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
In the second period, seventh-ranked China earned a number of penalty corners but was unable to break through the U.S. defense. Team USA’s attack registered two more goals to close out the 5-0 result.
“It goes without saying, but we’re proud of this performance,” said U.S. head coach Craig Parnham. “This match was important to start well. We had a tactically fantastic first half which set the tone for the rest of the game.”
Earlier in the week, Team USA earned a 2-1 victory over England and played Argentina to a 2-2 draw.
Following Friday’s win over China, the U.S. returns to action Sunday, June 8 at 8:30 EST against Germany. The match will be streamed live on ESPN3.
