Jones & Winslow to Participate in U18 Training Camp

DURHAM, N.C. – Incoming Duke freshmen Tyus Jones and Justise Winslow are among the 24 invitees to the 2014 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team training camp opening Tuesday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. The training camp, which runs from June 10-19, will be used to select the 12-member team that will compete in the USA Basketball-hosted 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship at the USOTC from June 20-24.

Also scheduled to attend the USA training camp are: Leron Black, Antonio Blakeney,  Isaiah Briscoe, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Kameron Chatman, Marquese Chriss, Tyler Dorsey,  Perry Dozier, JaKeenan Gant, Austin Grandstaff, Chase Jeter, Stanley Johnson, Luke Kennard, Tyler Lydon, Dwayne Morgan, Malachi Richardson, Justin Simon, Allonzo Trier, Myles Turner, Glynn Watson, Thomas Welsh and Stephen Zimmerman.

Jones, a three-time Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year, averaged 25.6 points, 8.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals per contest in leading Apple Valley to the Class 4A Section 3 title game as a senior. He was a second team All-America selection by USA Today and MaxPreps.com in 2014 and closed out his high school career ranked No. 5 overall by the Recruiting Services Consensus Index.

Winslow, the No. 12 player in the class of 2014 according to the Recruiting Services Consensus Index, concluded his high school career at Saint John’s [Texas]  with 3,208 points and 1,708 rebounds. He led the Mavericks to three league titles, while earning league Player of the Year and Gatorade Texas Player of the Year honors two times. As a senior, Winslow averaged 27.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.8 steals, while leading his team to a 24-13 record.

Both future Blue Devils have extensive experience with USA Basketball playing together in the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit as well as winning gold medals at the FIBA U17 World Championship in Lithuania. Jones also helped USA Basketball claim a gold medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, while Winslow earned gold again last summer as a member of the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship team.

Florida’s Billy Donovan will coach the U18 team at the 2014 FIBA Americas Championship and will be joined on the sideline as USA assistant coaches by Ed Cooley (Providence) and Sean Miller (Arizona).
