DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s Turner Southey-Gordon, Alexander Matlari and Motin Yeung were each named to the 2014 Men’s Golf All-ACC Academic Team as announced Monday by the league office. Eleven league programs are represented on the academic team, led by Georgia Tech with five honorees. Duke, Clemson and Virginia Tech each had three players recognized, while Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Virginia had two players selected.

Duke has now had 24 All-ACC Academic Team members during head coach Jamie Green's six-year tenure, including three or more selections in each of the past five seasons.

Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans was tabbed Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an award named after Rod Myers, Duke's men's golf coach from 1973-2007. The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.  Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Six golfers who earned All-ACC honors this season secured spots on the 2014 All-ACC Academic Men's Golf Team: Georgia Tech’s Schniederjans, Seth Reeves, and Anders Albertson, Notre Dame’s Niall Platt, Virginia’s Ben Rusch, and Virginia Tech’s Bryce Chalkley.

Georgia Tech’s Bo Andrews and Virginia Tech’s Chalkley are four-time league academic honorees. Three more – Albertson, Schniederjans, and North Carolina’s Bailey Patrick – earned their third career selection. The Duke trio secured All-ACC Academic Team honors for the first time in their respective careers.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
