The Duke Football Summer Spotlight runs every Tuesday and Thursday on GoDuke.com and features interviews with members of the reigning ACC Coastal Division Champion Blue Devils. DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior punter
Will Monday is the focus of today’s Duke Football Summer Spotlight. The two-time All-ACC selection enters the 2014 season as the ACC’s active leader in career punting average, posting a 43.65 yards per punt clip. That number ranks ninth on the league’s all-time list and first in the Duke record books.
Monday, a 6-4, 210-pound native of Flowery Branch, Ga., has been a weapon for Duke’s special teams unit with 40 career punts inside the opponent 20-yard line compared to just 12 touchbacks. He owns the Duke bowl record for longest punt, booting a 79-yarder in the 2012 Belk Bowl against Cincinnati. Monday was the No. 1-ranked punter in his class coming out of Flowery Branch High School and has emerged as one of the nation’s best at his position. He was named to the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which goes to the top punter in college football.
Monday is one of 43 letterwinners returning to Duke in 2014. The Blue Devils open the season on August 30 against Elon at Wallace Wade Stadium. Tickets are available at http://www.goduke.com/footballtix or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
