The Duke Football Summer Spotlight runs every Tuesday and Thursday on GoDuke.com and features interviews with members of the reigning ACC Coastal Division Champion Blue Devils.
DURHAM, N.C. -- Redshirt sophomore quarterback Thomas Sirk is the focus of today's Duke Football Summer Spotlight. Sirk enters the 2014 season as Duke's No. 2 quarterback behind two-year starter Anthony Boone.
Sirk, a 6-4, 215-pound native of Glen St. Mary, Fla., has yet to play a snap in his Duke career but is among Duke's most skilled at his position. Rated as the nation's No. 19 pro-style quarterback coming out of Baker County High Schoool in 2011, Sirk possesses tremendous athletic ability and a strong arm that were on display in Duke's annual spring game. In the 2014 edition of the intrasquad scrimmage, Sirk completed 12-of-28 (.429) passes for 83 yards whiel rushing 19 times for 30 yards and two touchdowns.
Sirk suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the spring of 2013 and missed the majority of last season while recovering from surgery. He is fully recovered heading into 2014 and should play a significant role for the Blue Devils as Boone's backup.
Patrick is one of 43 letterwinners returning to Duke in 2014. The Blue Devils open the season on August 30 against Elon at Wallace Wade Stadium. Tickets are available at http://www.goduke.com/footballtix or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
