DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt senior Anthony Boone completed 11-of-16 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns to highlight Duke’s 80-snap scrimmage on Monday evening at the Brooks Practice Facility.

Boone hooked up with wide receivers Issac Blakeney and Jamison Crowder for scoring tosses of 35 and 70 yards, respectively.  Wideout Max McCaffrey led the unit with three catches for 32 yards on the day.

“I’m not sure the crispness or the effort was what we’re used to seeing,” said Duke head coach David Cutcliffe.  “We normally don’t see a scrimmage from up top, so I’m getting to see it as I would see it on tape, but I would like to see it a lot crisper than what I saw.  There were some people individually that I saw, like Jordan DeWalt-Ondijo, who continues to show up. He did some really good things. There were some other people in the secondary who made some plays. I didn’t see anyone on offense really stand out, other than probably the three running backs. I thought they did some solid things in the scrimmage.”

Duke’s rushing game was headlined by junior running back Shaquille Powell, who gained 65 yards on 10 attempts.  Redshirt freshman Joseph Ajeigbe rushed five times for 40 yards while rookie Shaun Wilson had two carries for 14 yards.

Senior linebacker C.J. France spearheaded the defense with two sacks while DeWalt-Ondijo, a redshirt senior defensive end, carded 1.5 sacks and a pair of QB pressures.

On the injury front, redshirt senior linebacker Kelby Brown suffered a knee injury and will undergo further examination.

“When you have a great person, a great player and a guy that’s a stalwart in the program that’s had two knee surgeries, it’s upsetting to say the least,” said Cutcliffe.  “Kelby is a very strong spiritual person too, so he’ll be fine.”

Duke opens the 2014 season at home against Elon on August 30.  Tickets are available at GoDuke.com or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE.
