DURHAM, N.C. – In its first public appearance of the 2014 campaign, the preseason 18th-ranked Duke women’s soccer team will host 14th-ranked South Carolina Thursday, Aug. 14 in an exhibition contest at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The match will be free admission and start at 7:00 p.m.
The two teams will meet for the second straight year following a 1-0 victory by the Gamecocks last season in the second match of the year for the Blue Devils. In the loss, Duke outshot South Carolina, 12-5, but the Gamecocks netted a first half goal, which proved to be the game-winner.
South Carolina returns eight starters and 22 letterwinners from its squad that posted a 17-4-2 overall and 8-2-1 mark in the SEC last season. The Gamecocks welcome back starting goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo, who notched 12 shutouts and a 0.59 goals-against average.
Duke is coming off spending the last four days in Wrightsville Beach for preseason training.
