The goal of the Career Development Program is to assist our student-athletes with the development of the necessary tools to begin their professional life once their athletic careers have concluded. As a staff we provide them with the resources and education to help them become confident and successful with the entire process.
Below are some examples of the resources and programs that the student-athletes have access to during their careers:
Information Sessions Many companies/organizations have a sincere interest in hiring Duke student-athletes and welcome the opportunity to meet with our student-athletes using the information sessions to present who they are and the type of employees they are looking for to hire for internships and/or full-time positions. Many of them have a proven track record of hiring Duke student-athletes. These sessions are available to all current student-athletes.
Career Athlete Networking Forum Duke Athletics has partnered with Career Athlete to host our annual Career Athlete Networking Forum during the fall semester. We invite numerous companies/organizations and graduate school programs to attend and share with the Duke student-athletes about their companies and the potential employment and internship opportunities that they might be looking to fill. Included in the event is a panel discussion that focuses on transitioning into the work force, professional roundtable talks and a career networking segment. These events are available to all current and former student-athletes.
Career Development Workshops The Career Development Workshops are designed to help the student-athletes prepare and develop the needed skills to be successful with the entire career search process. The workshops include – resume writing and development, career exploration, creating a professional network and contact list, LinkedIn – value and understanding how to manage your account, career fairs and how to best navigate to meet your needs, interviewing skills and development. These are just a few of the topics and change from year to year depending on the need and feedback of the student-athletes. These workshops are available to all current student-athletes.
