Hey Blue Devil Fans!

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Lexie Brown. I am a redshirt junior and a member of the women’s basketball team. I am excited to be writing this blog to keep everyone up to date with myself and the team! For those that have met me, you know that I usually have a lot to say, so I feel like I was destined to write a blog. The semester is finally wrapping up and our post season workouts are wrapping up as well. It has been a very productive post season for the team in the weight room and on the floor. We have been doing new workouts like kickboxing and cross fit training, and Coach Will (William Stephens) has been pushing us so hard in the weight room. I am already excited for next season! You guys will see a completely different team next season…I promise.

Technically I have been in post season for over a year. Because of my transfer I was not able to play at all this season, which was really tough. However, I learned a lot about my teammates, my coaches, and myself! I can’t wait to step in-between those lines again as a player and not a spectator. This year was tough, but I was able to stay focused and work on my game (mentally and physically). Because of my competitive nature, I had to involve myself in some type of competition. So I decided to train for a half marathon.

I started my training about 12 weeks ago, and finally did the race last weekend in Raleigh. It was amazing! Hands down the most mentally and physically taxing things I have ever done, but I made it! Actually shattered the time limit I put on myself and finished in two hours and six minutes. It felt great to accomplish one of my goals I set for myself in 2016, there are many more accomplishments coming! The best part about the race was that my teammates came to support me; it was so early in the morning! But they were waiting for me at the finish line, which meant the word to me.

That’s what Duke is all about -- family and support. I have felt that since the minute I stepped on campus and it’s only grown as the year as gone on. I am so pumped to be able to share special moments, accomplishments, and just share our lives with you guys. I will be in Durham all summer long working out and taking classes…I don’t think you can understand how excited I am for next season! I will be living in the gym for the next couple of months, but what’s new?
