DURHAM, N.C. – After leading the Blue Devils to a 74-63 upset of No. 3 South Carolina Sunday, redshirt junior Rebecca Greenwell garnered espnW National Player of the Week and ACC Co-Player of the Week honors.
Greenwell turned in a 29-point performance against the Gamecocks, finishing 9-of-15 from the field with four three-pointers. She also went 7-of-8 at the free throw line as Duke handed South Carolina its first loss of the season.
Prior to leading the charge in the win over South Carolina, Greenwell had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists Thursday in a 68-32 Big Ten/ACC Challenge victory at Rutgers.
She received national and conference player of the week distinction for the first time in her career.
Greenwell enters the week ranked top-12 nationally in three-point field goals per game (3.6) and has hit a team-high 36 from behind the arc this season. She is averaging 21.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals per contest while leading the Blue Devils in scoring, field goals made, three-point field goals made, free throw percentage and minutes.
With the victory over the Gamecocks, Duke (9-1) earned its highest win over a ranked opponent since 2009 to enter the AP Top 25 for the first time on the season Monday, coming in at No. 21.
Head coach Joanne P. McCallie’s squad was one of five ACC schools ranked within the latest top 25, joining No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 8 Louisville, No. 20 Syracuse and No. 25 Virginia Tech. Connecticut took the top spot in the poll with 18 first-place votes, with the Fighting Irish, Baylor, Maryland and Mississippi State rounding out the top five.
The 21st-ranked Blue Devils resume play Thursday in a 7 p.m. matchup with Elon in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The non-conference contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
