DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the signing of right-hander Josh Nifong to a National Letter of Intent. A senior at High Point Christian Academy in High Point, N.C., Nifong joins the Blue Devils in the fall of 2017.
Nifong boasts a fastball that checks in at 92 mph and creates a good downhill plane with his 6-7 frame.
“Josh is a quintessential right-handed power arm,” said Pollard. “But he’s also a very good strike thrower with a plus change up. He’s played in a very successful high school program at High Point Christian. Josh has been very well coached and he brings a tremendous physical skill set with his combination of size and power.”
Along with fellow Duke signees Steve Mann and Bryce Jarvis, Nifong participated in the 2016 East Coast Professional Showcase, which provides a venue for the premier youth baseball players across the eastern United States to compete in a professional environment.
A 2016 Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention selection, Nifong has also garnered all-conference and team MVP honors during his high school career. In addition, Perfect Game rated the right-hander as the No. 212 overall prospect and the No. 69 right-handed pitcher in the 2017 recruiting class as well as the No. 12 overall and No. 3 right-hander in the state of North Carolina.
Nifong is part of Duke’s 10-member 2017 signing class. GoDuke.com is set to release detals on each of the Blue Devils’ 2017 recruiting class members over the coming weeks.
