DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Matt Dockman to a National Letter of Intent. A senior at Bishop Watterson High School in Hilliard, Ohio, Dockman joins the Blue Devils in the fall of 2017.
The 6-4 left-hander reaches the upper 80s with his fastball and boasts advanced command.
“Matt is a very advanced feel pitcher,” Pollard said. “He’s averaged about one walk per every 15 innings during his high school career. He fills up the strike zone with three quality pitches. His combination of stuff and command along with his 6-4 frame that produces a very good downhill angle will translate very well in ACC play.”
This past spring, Dockman pitched Bishop Watterson to a 2-1 victory over Lakewood in the Division II district final, earning first team All-Ohio Division II honors. In 2015, Dockman helped the Eagles secure their first regional title since 2001.
Dockman earned Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention accolades in both 2015 and 2016. Perfect Game also rated Dockman among the top 500 overall prospects and the No. 145 LHP in the 2017 recruiting class as well as the No. 22 overall and No. 7 LHP from the state of Ohio.
Dockman is part of Duke’s 10-member 2017 signing class. GoDuke.com is set to release details on each of the incoming Blue Devils.
