DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Maddie Rusch of the 22nd-ranked Duke women’s swimming and diving team was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week Wednesday. Rusch garnered the accolade after turning in an outstanding showing in a dual meet victory over South Carolina Saturday.

With the 167-133 win over the Gamecocks, the Blue Devil women improved to 5-1 on the season.

Rusch started off Saturday’s meet by anchoring Duke’s 200-yard medley relay to a first-place finish. Along with relay teammates Mickayla Hinkle, Ashleigh Shanley and Alyssa Marsh, Rusch helped clock a Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion record at 1:40.24.

The meet also saw Rusch sweep the women’s sprint freestyle event. She came in under the NCAA provisional time standard at 22.88 in the 50-yard race and recorded a mark of 50.59 to claim the 100 freestyle as well. Rusch returned to the water a final time in the 100 butterfly, helping the Blue Devils go one-two-three in the event with a third-place performance (55.34).

Rusch and the Blue Devils welcome Virginia Friday for a dual meet beginning at 5 p.m. in Taishoff. Rusch will be one of 18 seniors honored prior to the start of the meet, which will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
