DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimmers captured Performer of the Week honors from the ACC for the second consecutive week, with juniors Alex Peña and Anna Quinn both being recognized for their performances at the Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational.

Peña came in under the NCAA provisional standards in two events over the weekend, doing so in the men’s 200-yard freestyle and 200 backstroke. The Orlando, Fla., native won the 200 backstroke, with his finals mark of 1:44.38 ranking him second on the Blue Devils’ all-time performance list. Peña also jumped to eighth in program history in the 50 freestyle after placing second with a 20.22 clocking. He added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle to round out an impressive showing over the three days in Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.

Quinn finished strong at the Nike Invitational Sunday, taking first in the women’s 200 butterfly. She earned an NCAA ‘B’ cut after dipping under the two-minute mark in finals at 1:59.19. Quinn also raced to a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly, recording a time of 54.75.

The Blue Devil women’s swimmers and women’s and men’s divers compete next at the 2017 ACC Championships Feb. 13-16 in Atlanta, Ga.
