WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The trio of Oderah Chidom, Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell combined for 59 points as the 13th-ranked Duke women’s basketball team took down Wake Forest, 79-53, Thursday evening at Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Blue Devils (23-4, 11-3 ACC) opened the game with a strong start taking a 7-2 lead, but the Demon Deacons came back to even the score, 11-11, at the 2:09 mark of the first quarter.  Sophomore Kyra Lambert drove down the court as time was about to expire and drained a long two-pointer to give Duke a 13-11 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.  The Blue Devils struggled in the first quarter with eight turnovers.

Duke built a 13-point lead, 26-13, as the Blue Devils went on an 11-0 run in the second quarter, which was keyed by Chidom with six points during the run. The Blue Devils would hold a 30-17 lead with 1:38 left in the second, but Wake Forest would outscore Duke, 6-0, to cut the halftime lead to 30-23. 

At the break, Chidom led all scorers with 12 points and five rebounds as she made her 50th career start for the Blue Devils. Duke had trouble holding onto the ball committing 12 turnovers, but was big on the boards with a 20-12 advantage. 

Duke went on a 7-0 run to open the third quarter, which was helped by a quick steal and three-pointer for Greenwell.  Chidom, who hails from Oakland, Calif., continued to play well and had 16 points and six boards before leading the game in the third with three fouls. 

The Blue Devils would close the third quarter on a 12-2 run led by Brown with seven straight points and Duke led 59-37 at the end of the third quarter.  The third was big for Duke hitting 63.2 percent from the field and outscored WFU, 29-14. 

Duke outscored the Demon Deacons 49-30 in the second half and finished hitting 50.8 percent from the field for the game. 

Brown, who hails from Suwanee, Ga., finished with a game-high 24 points, while dishing seven assists and grabbing four steals.  It marked the 12th time this season she has reached the 20-point mark and in two games against Wake Forest has combined for 52 points.

Even with a chipped tooth in the fourth quarter, Chidom finished with 17 points, had eight rebounds and two blocks.  A product of Owensboro, Ky., Greenwell added 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Blue Devils held a 21-2 advantage in fast break points and forced 21 Demon Deacon (14-12, 5-8) turnovers. 

Duke will return home Sunday, Feb. 19 as the Blue Devils will host 16th-ranked Miami at 1 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.  The contest will be aired live on RSN-TV and will be senior day for Chidom and Kendall Cooper
