DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe handed out his yearly spring football awards on Saturday, highlighting five Blue Devils for their outstanding performances during the spring period.

On offense, rising senior running back Shaun Wilson and rising redshirt sophomore wide receiver Aaron Young shared most improved player accolades. Last fall, Wilson led the Blue Devils with 623 rushing yards and 51.92 yards per game. Wilson added four rushing touchdowns and caught eight passes for 76 yards. Young finished with 11 receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns in his debut season.

Defensively, rising redshirt sophomore defensive end Tre Hornbuckle and rising junior safety Jeremy McDuffie received co-most improved player accolades. Hornbuckle played in all 12 games as a rookie and started the regular season finale at Miami. He finished with 15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for lost yardage and one quarterback pressure. McDuffie, who is transitioning from cornerback to safety this spring, booked 17 tackles and a quarterback pressure last season.

Wrapping up the honorees was senior tight end/long snapper Bronson Bruneau, who received the Blue Devil Heart Award.

The Blue Devils, who return 43 lettermen and 14 starters from last year’s squad began spring drills on February 5 and will conclude their stretch of 15 practice dates on Wednesday, March 8.
