INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore diver Evan Moretti kicked off action for the Blue Devils on the second day of the 2017 Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships at IU Natatorium.
After earning a bid to NCAAs for the second consecutive season, Moretti competed in the one-meter springboard diving trials Thursday afternoon. He totaled 302.55 points to come in 24th out of 47 divers in the preliminary round.
Moretti topped the 50-point mark on three of his six dives, earning 58.50 points on a forward 3 ½ somersault in the second round and 57.00 points on a reverse 2 ½ somersault in the fifth round.
Moretti will be back on the boards Friday in Indianapolis for the three-meter springboard trials. He garnered honorable mention All-America honors in the event last season as a rookie.
Senior swimmers Peter Kropp and Dylan Payne will also take to the pool Friday, representing Duke in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Swimming preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., followed by diving at 12:15 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Preliminaries will be streamed on NCAA.com, while the evening finals session will be broadcast on ESPN3.
