INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Through three rounds of pool play at the NCAA Fencing Championships, the Blue Devils are currently in eighth place in the team standings with 37 points, highlighted by freshman Duncan De Caire’s eighth-place individual standing heading into Friday.

Notre Dame leads the team competition with 57 points, followed by Ohio State (56), Columbia/Bernard (51), Harvard (49) and Princeton (49) to round out the top five.

De Caire has led the Blue Devil men throughout the season with an outstanding 49-18 overall record and posted a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. The Sacramento, Calif., native won 10 of his 15 bouts today and logged a +9 indicator. Leading the way is Eli Dershwitz of Harvard and Jonah Shainberg of Notre Dame, who rank first and second with 14 and 12 victories, respectively.

In addition to De Caire, fellow classmate Jonathan Schwartzman holds the 13th spot in men’s foil with eight victories, while Eoin Gronningsater and Bryn Hammarberg each secured 17th place in their respective weapons with seven triumphs apiece. Pascual Di Tella rounds out the Duke men in 18th with five wins.

De Caire, Schwartzman, Gronningsater, Hammarberg and Di Tella will compete in their final eight bouts in pool play in their respective weapons and will attempt to move up the leaderboard with their focus on a top-four spot. The four fencers in each weapon with the best marks will advance to the semifinals of a single-elimination bracket of 15-touch bouts.

The semifinal and championship bouts will be aired on ESPN3 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The women will hit the strips to compete on Saturday and Sunday.
