DURHAM, N.C.— Duke women's soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2017 as head coach Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 5 overall class.  During the spring and summer, will spotlight each of the eight newcomers.

The third rookie that will be spotlighted is Caitlin Cosme, who is a 5-5 forward/defender from New Hyde Park, N.Y.  The Herricks H.S. product is the No. 32 ranked player in the 2017 class and the No. 5 defender overall.  She was an All-America and Conference Player of the Year as a senior, after totaling 11 goals and three assists.

What do you enjoy most about playing soccer?
Soccer allowed me to broaden my horizons. I have been to so many amazing places and have met such amazing people from playing soccer including some of my best friends.

What age did you start playing soccer?

8 years old

What are some of the strengths of your soccer game?

My competitiveness, leadership and drive to make myself better every time I step on a field

When/why did you decide soccer was going to be your sport you concentrated on?

I loved my coaches and team which made me want to continue to grow as a soccer player

What are you most looking forward to when you arrive on campus at Duke?

I am most looking forward to getting to know my new teammates and coaches and making new friends. I am also looking forward to all of the opportunities Duke has to offer academically.  

Who has had the greatest influence on your game?

Definitely all of the coaches I have ever had the pleasure to work with and the girls on my team who have helped me succeed. Some of these coaches include Danny Leon, Jairo and Johnny Navas, Paul Riley, Aaron Heffernan and Izzy Cotto

What are you doing this summer?

This summer I am really just focused on training, working on my fitness and playing as many games as I can to be ready to go when preseason comes around.

What do most people don't know about you?

I'm not sure because I am very open for the most part. I think if you didn't know me you wouldn't know that I am half Puerto Rican and half Indian or that my mom owns a tennis club.
