DURHAM, N.C. – Rising senior Katherine Maitland continued to tack on honors to her 2017 campaign, being named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Region 3 First Team.
Maitland bumped up to the first team in 2017 after receiving CRCA Second Team accolades in 2016. As a first team all-region pick, Maitland is eligible for All-America awards selection.
Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
Maitland, a team captain for the 2016-17 campaign, was a member of the V8 for every race this spring, helping the boat to a title at the Carolina Cup and a third-place finish at the Clemson Invite. Following the Carolina Cup win, the boat was tabbed the ACC Crew of the Week for its performance. The boat clocked its best time of 6:19.405 at the Longhorn Invite, where it took third to Iowa and San Diego.
