DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University men’s soccer senior Brian White was voted as the Premier Development League’s Most Valuable Player after his red-hot summer with the New York Red Bulls U23 squad. White also garnered the Golden Boot award after leading the league with 17 goals and 38 points overall.

White, recently tabbed first in the most recent 2017 PDL Top Prospects list, tallied his 17 goals in just 14 games with the Red Bulls. His offensive success helped the team earn the Mid Atlantic Division Title and PDL Regular Season Title. He played 1,106 minutes overall in the 14 outings.

A second-team All-ACC pick in 2016, White looks to carry this summer momentum into his final season as a Blue Devil. He led all Duke players last season in points with 14 from four goals and five assists. He has played in 53 games during his career, starting 43 of those, and scored 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points. He owns five game-winning goals in his three seasons, including the tally that lifted Duke to the 1-0 victory at No. 9 UCLA.

The Flemington, N.J., native made his debut on the PDL Top 20 Prospects List, coming in at No. 5 on the third edition of the poll as voted on by scouts, head coaches and technical directors across North America. He climbed to the top spot in the final release, announced at the end of July.

The Blue Devils open preseason training Aug. 9 and host South Carolina in their first exhibition Aug. 13. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium and admission is free. Duke will take on Xavier and Indiana Aug. 17 and 19, respectively, at the annual Shindigz National Soccer Festival.

The 2017 campaign officially opens Aug. 25 with the John Rennie Nike Invitational. The Blue Devils host Central Florida and Fordham in the tournament, playing the Knights in the opener Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Duke and the Rams square off Aug. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
