FLUSHING, N.Y. - After two hard fought victories, freshman Kelly Chen’s run at the US Open Juniors tournament came to an end as she fell to Emiliana Arango 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Chen took an early lead in the match, winning the first set 6-4 as the Cerritos, Calif., native won three break points during the set.

Arango answered in the second set, as the Colombian broke Chen three times and took the second set 6-1.

The third set was tightly contested in the early going. Arango led 3-2, but that was as close as Chen got with Arango closing out the final three games to win the match.

Chen will now return to Durham where she will join up with her teammates as the Blue Devils begin the chase for a national championship. Duke will begin its fall season later this month.
