FORT WORTH, Texas – In a back and forth battle Saturday afternoon, the Blue Devils came away with the 3-2 (21-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-23, 15-4) victory over Utah Valley in Fort Worth, Texas.

Sophomore Samantha Amos (13), seniors Anna Kropf (12) and Cadie Bates (12) and freshman Payton Schwantz (12) all registered double-digit kills to lead the offense, while senior Nicole Elattrache paced the defensive effort with 19 digs.

Utah Valley posted a .342 hitting percentage en route to a 25-21 first set decision. After falling behind early, Duke tied the frame at 18-all, but the Wolverines outscored the Blue Devils, 7-3 down the stretch.

The two teams battled to a 15-15 second-set stalemate before Duke rallied to knot the overall score. Kropf had three hills and a block during a key 7-2 Blue Devil spurt that helped Duke grab the stanza, 25-19.

The Wolverines hit .364 to the Blue Devils’ .109 clip to claim the third, 25-15.

Down 2-1 overall, Duke rallied for a 25-23 fourth set victory. The Blue Devils trailed 14-10 prior to a 12-5 stretch that gave Duke a three-point lead. Utah Valley knotted the score, 23-23, before a Bates kill and summer Brown service ace pushed the match to a fifth set.

The fifth and final frame belonged solely to the Blue Devils, who raced to a 10-2 behind four Schwantz kills. Up 10 points, Kropf and Bates teamed up for the block which sealed the comeback victory.

The Blue Devils will return to action this evening to take on Lehigh at 5 p.m. for their third and final matchup at the Fight in the Fort at TCU.
