DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman Paul Dellinger, a member of the Duke men’s cross country team, was named ACC Freshman of the Week, sharing the award with North Carolina’s Mitch Resor, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
After finishing second in his first collegiate race, Dellinger followed it up with a third place finish at the Winthrop Invitational last Saturday. The Rochester, N.Y., native clocked a time of 25:30.36 on the eight-kilometer course, finishing as the second Duke runner and the first freshman.
Dellinger helped the Blue Devils to their second consecutive first place finish as a team. Dellinger set a pace of 5:05/mile and was near the front of the pack throughout the race. The honor by the ACC is the first of his collegiate career.
Duke will next travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
