HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – The third-ranked Duke women’s golf team opened play at the Windy City Collegiate Championship Monday with 36 holes of play at the 6,200-yard, par 71 Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill.

The Blue Devils turned in rounds of 286 and 288 for a six-over-par, 574, and is fourth overall behind Oklahoma State (560), Arizona State (568) and Michigan State (570). Iowa State (576), Florida (577), Ohio State (577), Northwestern (579), Arizona (580) and Purdue (583) rounded out the top 10 teams.

Duke freshman Jaravee Boonchant and senior Leona Maguire paced the Blue Devils on day one as they turned in an even-par, 142, and are tied ninth overall. Linnea Strom of Arizona State holds the individual lead with a six-under-par, 136, with back-to-back scores of 68.

In round one, Boonchant carded a one-over-par, 72, and then backed that up with a one-under-par, 70, in the afternoon. A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Boonchant opened the second round with two bogeys over her first five holes, but concluded her day with a three-under-par score over her final 13 holes. She rolled in birdies on No. 18, No. 4 and No. 7. Boonchant drained two long birdie putts on the day of over 20 feet. In five rounds as a Blue Devil, she has collected four even or under par ledgers.

Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, notched an even-par, 71, in round one and then birdied her final two holes of the second round to finish with another score of 71. On the day, she birdied holes No. 15 and No. 18 in her first and second rounds. Maguire hit a team-best 15 greens in round one and rolled a team-low 27 putts in the afternoon.

Sophomore Ana Belac kicked off the day with a team-best one-under-par, 70, in round one as she posted four birdies on No. 15, No. 18, No. 5 and No. 9. A product of Portoroz, Slovenia, Belac came back in the afternoon and turned in a 75. She is tied 22nd overall with a 145.

With rounds of 73 and 75, junior Virginia Elena Carta is tied 40th with a six-over, 148. She hit 26 greens on day one, but struggled getting putts to drop. Carta, a product of Udine, Italy, rolled in birdies on No. 11 and No. 16 to open her morning but was held without a birdie over her final 29 holes.

In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Miranda Wang struggled early, but righted the ship and played her final 31 holes at two-over-par. She shot 77 in round one, but came back to shoot 72 in the afternoon. Wang, who is from Beijing, China, collected her first collegiate birdie on the 380-yard, par four 14th as she hit her wedge from 110 yards to three feet. She added a key sand save on No. 1 and other birdies on No. 18 and No. 8. Wang missed only two fairways out of 28 chances Monday.

Duke will open the final round Tuesday morning beginning at 9:15 a.m. (ET) along with Iowa State and Florida.
