DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke rowing team will begin its fall season Saturday, Oct. 21, at the 53rd Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass.
The Blue Devils are coming off a fourth-place finish at the ACC Championship last spring and hosted North Carolina last weekend for their Pride Race.
“We’re really excited,” head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno said. “We haven’t been to the Head of the Charles with this current coaching staff. It’s a great race with tons of tradition and history. There are hundreds of thousands of people there and we’re super excited.”
The Blue Devils will send one collegiate/club 4, a champ 4 and a champ 8 boat into action this weekend. The collegiate/club 4 will kick off competition Saturday at 1:57 p.m., and the champ 4 and champ 8 boats competing Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 2:22 p.m., respectively.
Additionally, several Duke alums will take the course this weekend to represent the Blue Devils on Saturday. In bow number 14, there will be coxswain Justine Hong, stroke Tonia Sackett, Emma Darling, Alex Japhet, Meridith Kisting, Emily Herrington, Amber Gerrity, Claire Vannelli and Elizabeth Horne. Also racing in the alum 8’s will be bow number 29, composed of coxswain Emilie Marchetti, Caroline Murphy, Alexandria Owen, Karolina Wadolowska, Julie Rohde, Sophia Staal, Rachel Wolsfelt, Sophia Blair and Alissa Van Arnam.
After this weekend’s Head of the Charles, the Blue Devils will head to the Princeton Chase Sunday, Oct. 29 in Princeton, N.J.
