PRINCETON, N.J. – The Duke rowing team headed North for a full day of competition at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The Blue Devils raced a trio of varsity 8+ boats, five varsity 4+ crews and one novice 8+ entry. Duke came away with three top-five finishes this afternoon.

“All in all, it was a really solid day for Duke,” head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno said. “We raced really well in all of our races. It was nice to see our varsity 8 hanging with the top end of the group. They showed some real poise and confidence. The fours and the freshmen eight had some really good races. There is a lot of depth that we haven’t seen in the last couple of years, so that is really exciting. Our freshmen just did a really great job, placing second and being able to race against some great teams and come out ahead. We are in a really great position.”

Duke’s top varsity 8+ notched fourth this morning in a time of 14:22.95. The Blue Devils’ A boat of coxswain Meagan LewIsabel Ruby-HillSarah FletcherLelia Boley, Abby ArtmannShannon TierneyOlivia HuntCaitlyn Carlisle and Katherine Maitland finished behind only Princeton, Brown and ACC foe Virginia.

The Blue Devils’ second varsity 8+ clocked out at 15:01.06 to take 19th overall while the third crew took 24th in 15:09.92.

Placing the highest of any Duke boat for the day was the top varsity 4+ of coxswain Lew, Boley, Carlisle, Maitland and Fletcher, which took second in a time of 15:50.90. The Blue Devils finished only behind Princeton’s boat (15:40.73).

Duke’s second varsity 4 posted a top-10 finish, coming in eighth in 16:27.81. The third 4+ came in 12th with a time of 16:45.31, followed by the fourth boat in 14th (17:03.30) and the fifth in 20th (17:31.33).

Duke’s novice 8+ crew also saw great success today with a second-place finish in 15:00.20, trailing only Dartmouth.

The Blue Devils will be back in competition Saturday, Nov. 4, traveling to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Head of the Hooch.
